Why have you changed from a free
list to a paid list?
I started Debbie's Country
Cookin' in 1997 for fun, and I sold ad space in
each issue to try and make enough money to pay
for the cost of the website, and any other expenses I
incurred for the ezine. In the beginning when
this type of advertising was new, I was able to sell a
lot of ad space. I could pay for all my expenses and
once in a while I made enough to even have a small
amount leftover for me.
But, a few years ago selling ad
space in small subscriber based ezines went the way of
lp's and cassette tapes. When this began happening I
started joining affiliate groups and placed ads for
them in each issue. It has not been very productive to
say the least, but I have just lived with it because I
did enjoy doing the ezine.
But, there are now so many
problems with the free list servers not delivering all
the issues to everyone and ISP's being so aggressive
trying to stop spam that it has become more of a chore
than something fun to do. I am constantly trying to
keep the issues coming through, by making changes,
manually sending out issues and trying to find a free
list server that actually will be accepted by all
ISP's. With over 4000 subscribers this takes more time
than putting the newsletter together each week.
I did NOT want to stop sending out
Debbie's Country Cookin' ezine, so I decided to go
with a paid list server program that is accepted
by all the major ISP's and email programs. They also
do the work to correct problems with these
programs when they come up, instead of me having to do
it. Since I cannot afford this cost on top
of the other expenses for the web site and ezine
I had to stop sending out the free issues and
start charging for them and the web
pages. The good news is, I am once
again able to devote more time to the content of
the ezine and web site and I no longer include
ads in the ezine.

Can I Send in recipes,
jokes, scriptures or thoughts?
I'm always looking for great recipes and other
interesting things to include in Debbie's Country
Cookin' newsletter, you can send them in to me . All I
ask is that, if it's a recipe, you or someone you know
has actually tried and liked them. The jokes and
thoughts should be squeeky clean and are not offensive
to anyone. Also, if they originally came from another
person, a book, or web site please send in the name
and/or web address, so I can include it and give them
the proper credit.
Occasionally I may need to make some minor changes
to a recipe or tip, I won't change the actual recipe
or tip, but, I may need to edit it so it fits the
format of the newsletter. Or reword some things, such
as if a recipe calls for 1 stick of butter, I will
change it to 1/2 cup butter, since butter is not sold
in sticks everywhere. Or if it calls for a small can
of tomato sauce, I'll say an 8 oz can, etc. Of course
any obvious typos will be corrected, if I catch them.
If I have a question about an ingredient or direction
I may need to check back with you before I use the
recipe.
